A beginning fencer at the Cobra Fencing Club does not have to purchase any equipment during the first month of training. After the first month, it is recommended that the new fencer acquire the basic equipment of the sport:a foil, glove, mask, fencing jacket and carrying bag. The cost of this equipment will run between $100 and $200 and will last a very long time.

There are many good equipment companies and the Cobra club recommends two in New Jersey. They are especially good at serving the needs of beginning fencers:
